Help - how to set off on realizing an eportfolio for "pdp"

I'm keen to make use of eportfolios but thought that before setting off to launch them in an instructional seeting, I should realize one myself so that I become more familiar with the process. I realized one according to criteria set forth in an Open U course I recently completed.

So I'm prepared to set to work on realizing one for my own professional development - to help realize a professional development plan of my own making. I'm keen to have one that invites visiting, review and feedback from peers. I'm also keen to have one that will demonstrate my own technological competencies. However, the whole thing seems a bit overwhelming to get started.

I'm wondering if anyone has "braved" a similar situation and/or might offer some suggestions on how I might make a first move?

A model of Best practice for eportfolios

I'm hoping some of you experts out there will have time to contribute to this, I'd really like to develop some new models of best practice for eportfolios. So far I have the makings of one for beginners starting to use eportfolios for the first time. Have a look at it and see if you agree. Have I missed anything vital? Is there anything else that should be added? Do you have other models of good practice that have worked well in your institution?

Start up Model

Be Flexible

Change your teaching approach to suit the new tool

Be Prepared

Use the eportfolio system yourself & have some training if necessary
Have a clear idea of what the eportfolio is for

Be Committed

Launch the eportfolio at the start of the course
Give students clear objectives & initial training
Provide regular feedback and encouragement

How was your dimdim experience? The live session yesterday went very well from my point of view with no technical hitches, an excellent presentation, thanks to Julie and Emma, some interaction and plenty of comments in the chat, thanks to all of you that took part. I'm aware that a couple of you had problems but for most of you I think service was good, the feedback I received via dimdim was certainly positive. I have added this forum conversation to give you an opportunity to expand on that feedback. What did you think of dimdim overall and the live online experience? How did it compare to your expectations? Would you want to use this method of delivery yourself?
